Providing
December 2017 Acrylic 16" x 20" Providing is set in the harsh landscape of the north. The main focus is a ruddy giant going forth to hunt and provide for the clan. I wanted to capture the cold of the north that burns your cheeks and the strange way it the environment can be cold; yet have the sun's light difussing through the clouds making some areas look warmer than they truly are. |
Perception of Time and Death
April 2017 Oils & Acrylic 30" x 40" Perception of Time and Death looks into the way different cultures feel about time, life and death. It also pulls into question the intangible elements of superstition and folklore. What happens at those inexplicable moments known as "in-between places?" |
In the Moment
November 2016 Oils & Acrylic 18" x 24" In the Moment focuses on the process of thin glazes to create a dreamy quality to the environment. The subject matter relates to my time spent as a child in a military family and the continuation of moving as an adult in the Air Force. My desire was to show the positives that come from your home being where you are in the moment. |
Disquietude
June 2016 Mixed Media: house paint, Oils, polyurethane 2' x 2' Disquietude captures the essence of the build up of anxiety. The technical process of building up the textures is symbiotic with the relationship of the mind and feelings of anxiety. The turmoil, discomfort and coinciding rage are shown in the movement of the piece as well as the color. The ache behind your eyes and the hot feeling in the pit of your stomach are represented in the dark outter regions that culminate in the center with a fiery, turbulent core. |
Contemporary: Forward is the Only Option May 2016 Oils 3' x 4' This artwork was designed to embrace the sublime, expansive landscape of the midwestern United States and capture that sense of wonder and light. It also holds a sense of tension as the man continues forward into the dark unknown. The companion at his side represents how having help or just someone by your side may make the undiscovered path easier to walk. |
